Part of the problem is access to safe outdoor spaces, but there may be a solution: archery. But what does archery help with getting your kids outside and having fun? Also, isn't that dangerous? Well, with safety bows and arrows from Two Bros Bows, archery can be one of the safest sports for your children.
Let's break down why outdoor archery can be hugely beneficial for your child and how you can get them started today.
In the modern era, it's virtually impossible to avoid screens. However, while some screen time is healthy and can potentially yield positive effects, too much of it can be harmful to your child. According to research, excessive time in front of a screen can lead to lower cognitive abilities, reduced speech patterns, and impaired social and emotional skills.
Basically, humans need physical interactions with other people to develop the necessary skills to be part of a society. By replacing those interactions with screens, kids don't learn these skills, and they can struggle later in life. While the definition of "too much" screen time can vary from one person to the next, it's best to try and limit it whenever possible.
Fortunately, there are many ways that games like archery can make it easier to motivate your children to get off the screens and play outside. Some compelling reasons why archery can yield such significant benefits include:
Overall, archery can be one of the best ways to get your kids to want to spend more time outside. Plus, thanks to the design of our arrows and targets, your children can move the fun indoors. This way, whether it's raining or cold outside, they can still run around and have fun inside.
For most parents, the prospect of getting their kids to play without screens is motivation enough to buy an archery kit. However, there are some other added benefits of this practice, such as:
At Two Bros Bows, we have a wide array of archery sets and targets. With so many designs and colors to choose from, your child is sure to find something that appeals to their style. Whether you have one, two, or more children, our boxed sets are affordable and easy to use. Contact us to start your kids' archery careers today!

Archery is an incredible option because it's fun and challenging and can work for everyone in the family, no matter how young or old. At Two Bros Bows, we make archery as accessible as possible, and we invite you to see how it can help your family strengthen its bonds.
Building a cohesive family unit is essential because it strengthens social ties, creates a sense of belonging, and helps individual members develop and shape their identity. For children, family bonding helps them learn essential skills and information and offers a stronger foundation for them to be self-sufficient as they grow up.
For parents, family bonding is a way to reinforce emotional ties with their significant other and their children. When one or both parents are absent from family activities, they can start to feel isolated and depressed. As with children, spending more time with family members who love and appreciate them can make a parent feel accepted and appreciated.
There are also some tangible side effects of family bonding, such as:
Although there are tons of family-friendly activities available, archery is a unique option that can work better than others. Some of the top reasons why you should look into archery include:
Fortunately, if you or your little one are having trouble focusing on any one task, there may be a simple and cost-effective solution: the Spinny Thing from Two Bros Bows. Fidget spinners and sensory items for classroom and home use, have become a hot commodity in recent years, but they're more than just a way to kill time and keep your hands busy. Let's break down why these toys can make a huge difference in managing sensory disorders and helping your child stay focused.
Technically, a "fidget spinner" is a rotating device with multiple prongs (typically three) that spins on ball bearings. This toy was patented in 1997 but wouldn't become mainstream until 20 years later, in 2017. While the initial fervor has died down on fidget spinners, they're still relatively popular.
However, one side effect of the fidget spinner's success is that it showed there was a market for similar devices and toys. Now, you can find all kinds of options that offer tactile sensations and repetitive movement, including our very own Spinny Thing.
In each case, the goal is the same. A fidget device is designed to keep your hands and brain busy with a simple sensory task so that you can focus the rest of your brain on other, more complex items. If you've ever found yourself having deeper thoughts while driving or taking a shower, that's why. Because part of your brain is occupied with something familiar and easy, the rest of your mind is free to work on more abstract details.
Currently, there haven't been many scientific studies about fidget spinners or related sensory toys. However, there has been plenty of anecdotal evidence, especially from those who use these toys to help focus throughout the day.
But why do these tools work? And, most importantly, are they more of an aid or a distraction?
Humans are exposed to far more stimuli today than at any other point in history. Because the brain hasn't evolved to adapt to this many stimuli, it's easy for it to get overwhelmed. Sensory overload can cause panic attacks, anxiety, or intense distraction from the task at hand.
So, where do fidget toys come in? Well, they offer a sense of control when things get too overwhelming. Because you're the one moving and spinning the toy, your brain centers on that activity over everything else. Thus, it's easier to tune out other distractions and stimuli. Usually, our brains can handle this automatically, but with so much going on at any given time, a fidget toy can help provide instant relief.
That said, timing matters more than anything. If you or your child are bored, a fidget toy can be more of a distraction. For example, if you're listening to a lecture or a meeting and not focusing on the content, your brain will focus more on the toy. However, if you're trying to focus on a complex task (like homework or building something), a fidget toy can help reduce overstimulation.
One study from 2022 looked at whether fidget spinners (or identical toys) could help mitigate ADHD symptoms. The results of the study concluded that using one of these toys helped improve students' on-task behavior during class. However, it also noted that while the results were promising for some students, it doesn't mean that sensory toys will work for everyone.
Part of the reason why these toys worked in this study is that ADHD patients are tactile learners. By holding onto a physical device and controlling its movement, the subjects could reduce outside distractions and focus more on the task at hand. While spinners were used in the study, any type of fidget toy or sensory items for the classroom would likely have similar results.
Our Spinny Thing is a unique take on the fidget spinner craze, and it may be able to help you or your child focus better in school or on other tasks around the house. Our toy is durable, easy to use, and comes with our unique colors and patterns.
It's small and thin enough to fit in your pocket, and it can help in various situations where distractions are too overwhelming. Buy the Spinny Thing today and see how well it works for you or your child. We also invite you to shop our archery boxed sets for more structured playtime. These sticks are challenging enough to keep your child occupied and entertained but not so challenging that they'll give up immediately. Let's dive into the world of devil sticks and see how they can benefit your kids.
Devil sticks are a set of three rods. Two of the sticks are used to move the third, which has weighted ends. The goal is to juggle the weighted stick with the smaller rods. As your skills progress, you can do all kinds of tricks, such as spinning the rod in the air, spinning it around the smaller sticks, and more. There is no limit to how many tricks you can learn once you master the basics.
Some toys focus on mental stimulation, while others focus on physical stimulation. Devil sticks engage both the body and the mind, forcing children to adapt quickly to keep the stick moving without dropping. Learning how to juggle devil sticks can benefit kids in multiple ways, such as:
The first time you try devil sticks, it might feel a bit odd. Because you're not touching the weighted stick with your hands, it may take a while to get used to the feeling of using sticks as extensions of yourself.
One of the best ways to get used to the feeling of moving the weighted stick around is to set it on the ground and move it back and forth, like a pendulum. Once you feel comfortable with that movement, you can start doing it in the air. If you drop the stick, just pick it up and keep practicing.
After a while, you may feel comfortable tossing the stick into the air with both smaller sticks. Practice that a few times to get the feeling right. Then, you can start spinning the weighted stick and catching it.
Once you've mastered these basic tricks, there's no limit to what you can do in your routine.
As you can see, having your child practice juggling devil sticks can yield some incredible advantages. Plus, they're super fun to play with and a great way to play outside. We sell our devil sticks in multiple colors and patterns, and each stick has soft padding for safety. We also invite you to check out our selection of bows and arrows for more outdoor fun.
]]>ADHD is a complex disorder with multiple variables and factors at play. However, some evidence suggests that one way to alleviate its symptoms is by keeping the mind occupied with a relatively simple task. Enter the fidget spinner.
Fidget spinners have been around for decades, but now, they can be a helpful way to mitigate the worst effects of ADHD and boredom to help your child focus. So, let's break down the science of why fidget spinners might work for you.
An official "fidget spinner" is a device that uses a ball bearing to allow a multi-pronged shape to spin in place. The idea is that the user holds the device in the center, spinning the shape between their fingers. There are multiple variations of the fidget spinner, but they all utilize the same basic principle.
The first fidget spinners, as we know them, came out in 1993. However, at the time, they were barely a blip on the radar for most parents and children and weren't very popular. The inventor of the fidget spinner, Catherine Hettinger, allowed the patent to expire in 2005 because she couldn't afford to renew it.
Then, fidget spinners really became mainstream in 2017. However, because the patent was no longer valid, it allowed companies of all shapes and sizes to create their own copycat versions.
Thus far, research surrounding fidget spinners and ADHD is mixed, and there's not a clear consensus on whether the toys provide substantial benefits. However, anecdotal evidence suggests that toys like these can help kids focus better, particularly when in school or doing homework.
The idea behind why fidget spinners work is pretty straightforward.
When a child gets bored, their mind tends to wander onto other, more stimulating topics. So, during a school lesson, it's common for kids to get distracted and start doing other things like doodling, tapping, or humming.
While these actions can seem annoying to outsiders, they're designed to keep part of the brain occupied. This way, the rest of the mind can listen and absorb the information being presented.
So, instead of tapping a pencil or humming a tune, students can spin a fidget spinner to reduce distractions. This practice doesn't work for all kids, but when it does, it can yield noticeable results.
At Two Bros Bows, we cater to children and understand how hard it can be for kids to focus. So, we developed our own spinning toy, called The Spinny Thing. This device is compact and discreet, and it helps engage the part of the brain that's prone to hyperactivity and distraction. The weight and visual style of The Spinny Thing are excellent, meaning this device could become your little one's new favorite toy.
Whether your child has ADHD or just gets distracted easily, we encourage you to see if The Spinny Thing can help. It fits in almost any pocket and is lightweight and rubber-tipped for safety. Buy yours today!
]]>If you’ve ever been to a Renaissance Faire, it’s likely that you’ve seen devil sticks. They are comprised of two wooden sticks, one of which is held in each hand, and a third, longer stick, which usually has tassels, soft balls, or in some cases, even fire (don’t worry, we don’t sell those!), on each end. The goal is to juggle the middle stick back and forth between the two side sticks with the goal of completing tricks.
It's not difficult to get the juggle stick going back and forth between the two hand-held sticks, but learning different tricks and making an entertaining routine can be difficult. Here are some of our best tips for upping your devil's sticks game.
When you’re just starting out, it’s important to master the basics of juggling your devil sticks before trying any other tricks. The easiest way to do this is to set your two handheld sticks aside and start only with the longer middle stick. Put one end of the stick on the ground, and using your hands, start to push it back and forth between your hands so that it begins to move like a pendulum.
Once you’ve mastered this, you can pick up your hand-held sticks and begin to do the same, still keeping one end of the middle stick on the ground. Once you feel comfortable doing this, you can try to lift the middle stick off of the ground so that it’s flying through the air between your two handsticks.
There are various devil stick tricks you can learn and string together to create a fun, challenging, and entertaining routine. However, this will only work if you first master the basics. One common mistake is getting overexcited about all of the advanced devil stick tricks and trying to achieve them without having a solid foundation of basic technique. You don’t want to rush into complicated maneuvers until you’re comfortable and confident with the basic movements and skills. That said, once you’ve mastered the basics, here are some fun skills to try out:
Skyward Toss: Get your devil stick on top of both of your handsticks. Then, using equal force from each handstick, propel the devil stick straight into the air, catching it once again with your handsticks.
180 Degree Spin: While juggling the devil stick, raise one handstick slightly higher than the other. This causes the handstick to make contact with the devil stick at a different angle and will propel the devil stick into a 180-degree turn. You can then catch the stick as usual and continue juggling. If you simply lift the handstick a little higher and use a little more force, you can also create an impressive 360-degree spin.
Pirouette: In this trick, the devil stick doesn’t do the spinning; you do. In order to execute this cool-looking trick, toss the devil stick high up in the air. Before it comes down, spin your body around in a full circle, and then catch the devil stick with your hand sticks.
Don’t stop here. There are tons of unique devil stick tricks out there, ready to be learned. But, even better, why not see what sorts of tricks you can invent using your own imagination? One of the best things about devil sticks is that there aren’t any hard and fast directions or rules you have to follow.
Try everything you can imagine. Let your mind and your own unique ideas help you create an impressive and completely one-of-a-kind devil stick routine. Get started today with juggle sticks from Two Bros Bows. Feel free to contact us with any questions or if you’d like to share your devil sticks routine with us. Happy juggling!
]]>But trust us when we say that your child’s first bow and arrow will be nothing like the lethal weapons popularized by heroes like Katniss Everdeen or Marvel’s Hawkeye, and the intention when beginning archery isn’t to train a tiny assassin.
The true essence of introducing kids to archery is to nurture their confidence, coordination, and concentration. The goal is to encourage them to embrace the outdoors, away from screens, engage in physical activity, and let their imaginations run wild. They can envision themselves as valiant archers, defending kingdoms or exploring new worlds. And when you choose a bow and arrow set from Two Bros Bows, you're investing in a playful tool, not a weapon.
Beyond the thrill and excitement, archery offers a myriad of benefits for young enthusiasts. It's not just about hitting the target; it's a holistic development activity. Archery:
When it comes to children and beginners, choosing a bow isn’t about which one will shoot arrows the fastest or has the longest range. It’s about choosing something that is safe, fun, and durable. At Two Bros Bows, our products are designed by children, with children in mind. This means all of our bows are made from PVC pipes, making them both powerful and durable. They’re flexible, so it’s hard to break them from pulling too hard or even dropping them on the ground.
You also want to make sure you choose a bow that is appropriately sized for a child. Allowing a child to use an adult-sized bow is not only difficult; it can also be dangerous. Our bows are created with children in mind, ensuring their smaller size is compatible with a child’s body, strength, and arm length.
What kind of arrows you choose for your child is just as important a decision as choosing a bow. At Two Bros Bows, all of our bows are outfitted with foam arrow heads, making them safe to use inside or outside, and preventing the types of injuries and damage that can occur when someone or something is struck by a hard metal arrow. Our foam arrowheads make archery safe for even the smallest of archers.
Children are naturally drawn to vibrant and engaging items. Our bows are available in a variety of colors and patterns, and most have colorful arrows to match. These are, most definitely, bows for kids. The bright colors and bold patterns entice children to pick up the bow and start learning, whether it’s their first time attempting archery, or they’re experienced little archers.
Choosing a bow for kids can seem daunting, especially if it’s your first time, but at Two Bros Bows, we’re here and ready to help. Please feel free to contact us at any time with any questions. Start your child’s journey into archery today by browsing our bow collection. Welcome to the family!
]]>Luckily, learning the proper technique is just the beginning. Now is when you and your family and friends can really start to have fun. There are so many archery games and fun spins on archery target games that you and yours can stay entertained for hours!
Archery games tend to have simple rules, making them accessible and fun for archers of all ages and skill levels. Because our arrows are felt-tipped, you don’t have to worry about rogue arrows causing any injuries or property damage. This means you can focus on what’s most important – having some wholesome family fun!
While there are countless archery games out there, ready and waiting to be played, we’ve put together a list of just a few of our Two Bros Bows favorites.
If you’ve ever played basketball, you may be familiar with the game of HORSE. The rules for playing this are basically identical. This is a game played between two people (although it can be played with two teams if many archers want to participate.) The first archer chooses a target and can shoot at it from any distance and with any style they desire. If they successfully hit the target, the second player must successfully replicate that shot. If the second player doesn’t replicate the shot, they will be given the letter “H.”
If the first archer is unsuccessful in making their shot, then the second archer may take any shot they choose, and if they make it, the first archer must replicate it or be given an “H.” The game continues on this way – trying to replicate each other's shots, with each miss being given another letter in the word HORSE. Whichever player or team accumulates H-O-R-S-E first has lost.
This is another two-person game, but it can easily be played in a tournament format, with the winner of each round advancing to the next level until a champion is crowned. In this game, different challenges can be set up around the yard. These can mimic the actual components of an Olympic competition, but we have the most fun when we get creative with tasks and skills to be tested.
You can include distance shooting, precision shooting, shooting at moving targets, or even shooting at stationary targets while running, kneeling, or lying down. The possibilities are endless. See where your imagination takes you with this fun and competitive game.
Set a cup or cups up in different areas of your yard, mimicking different holes on a golf course. At each hole, players shoot their arrow, trying to get it as close to the cup as possible, with the end goal being to sink the arrow into the cup. At the end of each hole, count how many strokes (or shots) it took for each player to get the arrow into the cup. Just like golf, the lowest score wins.
This is basically paintball but with bows and arrows. The more obstacles and hiding places you can set up in your playing field, the better. Players are divided into two teams, with the goal of hitting the opposing team with arrows. Whatever team is left standing at the end are the victors. (Please be sure to wear protective glasses and any other necessary protective gear when playing this to avoid injuries.)
This game is simple but oh-so-fun and can really get those competitive juices flowing. Robin Hood is a group game – the more, the merrier. Participants begin by taking turns shooting at a stationary target from a close range. Anyone who misses is eliminated. Those who survive move to the next round, in which they’ll shoot from 10 feet further away from the target. This will continue on round by round – those who miss are eliminated, and those who succeed shoot from 10 feet further away in the next round – until there is only one contestant left. This player is the victor and is given the title of “Robin Hood.”
For this two-person game, all you need is a piece of wood or cardboard with a tic-tac-toe board drawn on it. Competitors take turns shooting their arrows into different tic-tac-toe squares. Because our arrows are felt-tipped and won’t stick on the board, assign each player as either team “X” or team “O” and write these in with a marker or chalk when a box is hit. Whoever achieves three in a row first is the winner.
Dive into a world of thrilling archery games and let your child's imagination soar. From the classic H.O.R.S.E to our very own Robin Hood challenge, there's endless fun waiting for every budding archer. Don't just watch from the sidelines; be part of the adventure. Instead, try to think of digital gaming as a supplement to traditional play, rather than a replacement.
One valuable element that digital gaming can offer children is encouragement to expand their world view outside of their own limited knowledge base. Playing games that take place in different worlds, time periods, realms, and circumstances allow children to use their imaginations to envision what life was like in the past, could be like in the future, or is like in lands far from their own.
There’s no argument that archery training in the real world is far superior to any kind of bow shooting that a child can learn from a video game. Digital games can’t recreate the tangible aspects of archery, such as the weight of an arrow in the archer’s hand, the tension on the bow as it’s drawn back, or the “whoosh!” of the air as the arrow sails toward its target.
There’s no equivalent in the digital world to important training tools like a bow trainer. These real-world practices and tools can’t be replicated in a strictly digital world.
However, video games can have an important role in real life archery training. Games that feature archers as characters can be many children’s first introduction to archery. They can allow kids to see themselves in a new light – as heroes or villains that expertly handle their bows and arrows as adeptly as an old pro. While learning to use a bow and arrow in real life, their burgeoning skills can be reinforced, and their interest intensified by playing digital games that involve archery.
The key here is always maintaining a balance between digital gaming, and real-world experience. One without the other offers a glimpse into the world of archery, but together, they can provide a fuller picture of the traditions, sport, art, and history of the sport. Pair these with some informational history lessons or books about the rich history of archery to get your kids even more interested in this centuries-old pastime.
Archery can’t happen without the essential tools of the trade – a bow and arrow. Gift the littlest archers in your life with one of our foam arrows or bow and arrow sets to set them on the path to a lifelong love and appreciation of archery. Check out our collections today to find the perfect piece for the aspiring archers in your life.
]]>With the advent and evolution of video games, kids can now have exposure to the use of bow and arrows easier than ever before. Archery video games continue to grow in popularity, with well-known and loved video games such as The Last of Us, Minecraft, and Legend of Zelda all featuring characters that use bows and arrows as their weapon of choice.
However, a child can only learn so much about the rich tradition of archery from archery games. Learning what buttons to press to fire an arrow accurately can’t compare with the feeling of tension on your bow, or the feel of an arrow in your hand as you pull it from your quiver.
Sitting staring at a screen can’t compare with spending time outside in the fresh air and sunshine as you gather your arrows and pick up your bow. Video games can teach aim by showing children how to lock in on their target and fire, but it isn’t the same as using your own senses, calculations, strength, and estimations to attempt to fire the perfect arrow at your target in the perfect direction to strike with maximum impact.
Clearly, the traditional practice of learning to use a real, tangible bow and arrow set offers benefits, lessons, and experiences that digital gaming just isn’t able to compete with. There’s something about learning how to execute a concrete, measurable skill and the satisfaction that comes with achieving that goal.
There are calculations in real-life archery that an archer must consider, that aren’t as crucial in an archery game, as the gaming system often assists in the calculation process and helps you to fire accurately. The pride and sense of accomplishment a child feels when learning how to use their bow and arrow is something that can’t be replicated in a digital environment.
This all isn’t to say that there’s not a place for video games in the life of a contemporary child. In fact, the integration of archery video games, in conjunction with learning the real practice of archery can help children to entertain possibilities that go beyond their reality.
A video game can give a child permission to imagine themselves as a hero or villain, equipped with a bow and arrow. Video games in historical settings can be a jumping off point for children to become curious about the rich history and traditions the art of archery is steeped in.
Ideally, parents and children can enjoy a combination of real-life archery training, using our bows, foam arrows, and archery combo sets as well as context from video games to get and keep kids interested in archery. ]]>Katniss Everdeen is known for her signature archery skills and is easily one of the best fictional archers in history. But her popularity isn’t just about how she handles a bow and arrow; it’s about how she uses them as tools for social justice, rebellion, and freedom.
Symbolism in The Hunger Games is rampant, but not in a blatant, in-your-face kind of way. Much of it is subtle, creating a strong throughline that resonates throughout each film and book. From the flowers Katniss adorns young Rue with after her death, to the Mockingjay pin, to Katniss Everdeen’s bow itself, even the most basic The Hunger Games analysis reveals powerful symbolism everywhere.
Instead of diving into an analysis of the entire Hunger Games franchise, let's set our sights on our trailblazing heroine, Katniss Everdeen. Our Katniss Everdeen analysis particularly hones in on her remarkable archery skills and the transformative way she deploys them to leave an indelible mark.
From the very first book and film, Katniss wields her bow and arrow as a tool of defiance. In The Hunger Games, a frustrated Katniss uses her opportunity to demonstrate her skills to the Gamemakers by shooting an arrow at their table. This daring move not only grabs their attention but also earns her a top-ranking score, a testament to Katniss Everdeen’s archery skills.
Fast forward to her second round in the Games, during Catching Fire, Katniss electrifies the arena (literally!) by shooting an arrow at its domed roof, announcing her non-compliance with the Games and their rules.
These actions, among others, highlight the profound symbolism of Katniss's archery skills. Her bow and arrow evolve beyond physical weapons into potent political tools. She wields them to challenge injustice, champion the weak or marginalized, and express deep-seated beliefs she finds hard to express in words. Through Katniss's bow and arrow, we see a symbol of courage and resilience that echoes throughout her journey.
As the narrative unfolds and the Districts spiral into a confrontation with the Capitol, Katniss, her Mockingjay emblem, and her trusty bow and arrow emerge as enduring symbols of the uprising. The revolution would likely never have been sparked without Katniss repeatedly making bold, decisive statements with her bow and arrow. Without these fiery acts of courage and defiance, change would have remained a distant dream, and the Districts would have continued to languish under the weight of the Capitol's extravagant wastefulness and iron-fisted rule.
Katniss, with her bow and arrow as her steadfast companions, managed to leave an indelible mark. These tools, paired with her unrivaled archery skills, propelled her from a humble District 12 inhabitant to a hero, an icon, and one of the most memorable characters in the realm of young adult literature and film. Her legacy serves as a testament to the might and resilience of a single individual armed with little more than a bow, an arrow, and an unwavering spirit.

]]>One of the MCU superheroes, the Avengers Hawkeye, played by Jeremy Renner, is known for his excellent archery skills. He’s often shown shooting with extreme precision, in dangerous situations, or while completing death-defying feats like jumping off buildings. But how accurate and realistic is his archery technique? According to some experts, not very.
Several professional archers, coaches, and enthusiasts have conducted a detailed Hawkeye analysis of the archery techniques in The Avengers, concluding that Hawkeye's methods might not stand the test of real-world archery. Lars Andersen, a renowned archer, through his evaluation, found that Hawkeye's techniques are unlikely to work in reality. A professional archery instructor writing for Wired even goes so far as to question whether Hawkeye might be the world’s worst archer.
Here are some of their biggest thoughts and concerns.
While certain 'archery techniques' depicted in The Avengers might not hold up under scrutiny, featuring an archery superhero like Hawkeye can inspire a love for the sport among children. If you can look past the following inaccuracies and embrace the films as an exciting introduction to archery, your little ones might even catch the archery bug! If that happens, we're here to assist. Explore our combination bow and arrow sets and vibrant, safety-assured foam-tipped arrows, designed especially for the youngest archery enthusiasts in your life.
When Hawkeye draws his bow back, it seems to have no power behind it at all. Andersen likens his bow to that of “a really, really light children’s bow,” meaning that it wouldn’t realistically be able to send arrows nearly the distance that Hawkeye’s arrows travel.
While it is possible to shoot an arrow in a way that causes it to turn in the air, Hawkeye’s arrows do this without any clear cause. In order for a bow to turn midair, the archer must angle the arrow on the bow in a certain way, altering its path. In The Avengers, the turning does not appear realistic because there was no action taken to cause the arrow to turn in the air.
Hawkeye consistently draws his bow, places an arrow, and fires it in one fluid motion. This is doable, but not with Hawkeye's arrow grip. The fingers are on the incorrect side of the bow, making it impossible to draw and release the bow seamlessly.
Despite the inaccuracies, The Avengers also masterfully illustrates certain elements of archery. Here are a few aspects that pass the test of real-world archery:
Hawkeye often fires arrows with different explosives attached to them. While this seems impossible, it would actually be very possible to recreate in real life. As long as the explosive is attached in a way that doesn’t disrupt the weight balance of the arrow, or if an archer adjusts for said weight imbalance, the arrow would fire just fine, and the explosive would detonate upon reaching its target. (Maybe don’t let your kids try this, though.)
Renner’s character often shoots behind himself or without looking where he’s shooting. While this takes an incredibly skilled archer and a lot of experience, it’s not impossible. In fact, there are several instances throughout history involving archers shooting blindfolded. Considering that Hawkeye is a superhero, it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility that he’d be skilled enough to pull this off.
Hawkeye isn't the sole bow-wielding character in the Marvel Universe; Kate Bishop also demonstrates exceptional archery skills. In contrast to Hawkeye's more theatrical techniques, Kate Bishop stands out with her precise, consistent technique and accurate shots. Her depiction offers a more realistic portrayal of the sport, further enhancing the franchise's appeal to archery enthusiasts.
Including characters like Kate Bishop can have a positive effect on young female audiences by showcasing a strong, skilled female character excelling in a traditionally male-dominated sport. This could inspire more girls to take up archery, seeing it as an activity where they, too can excel.
Remember, whether it's emulating the explosive theatrics of Hawkeye or the precise consistency of Kate Bishop, if your kids feel the urge to try their hand at archery, we've got you covered. ]]>For the young archer-in-the-making or the child who's merely archery-curious, the world of children's literature and movies is a perfect gateway to introduce them to the sport and kindle their interest further. It's through these captivating tales and adventures featuring archery that they can visualize the excitement firsthand.
In the realm of children's movies, archery has swiftly captured the pop culture limelight, playing a key role in a number of beloved movie franchises. From animated adventures to superhero sagas, there's an abundance of archery-centric films to fuel your child's fascination with the sport. Here are a few of our favorites that effectively weave in the art of archery.
No discussion of archery in pop culture is complete without mentioning The Hunger Games. Originally a riveting young adult book series, it later evolved into a four-part film saga. The narrative centers around the brave teenager turned heroine, Katniss Everdeen, known for her remarkable archery abilities and her spirited defiance.
Both Katniss and her trusty bow and arrow emerge as potent symbols of rebellion, freedom, and the insurrection she incites within the poverty-stricken, Capitol-dominated districts. Her expert use of the bow to disrupt the games underscores her strength, courage, and relentless pursuit of justice for the defenseless. Katniss Everdeen sets an inspiring example of what an archer can achieve with determination and a steadfast spirit.
The 2012 Pixar film, "Brave," introduces us to the fiery Scottish princess Merida whose passion for archery, ignited on her sixth birthday, becomes an emblem of her unyielding spirit and her defiance of societal norms.
Merida’s mastery of archery is instrumental in changing her destiny. Her participation in the Highland Games, traditionally reserved for first-born sons, secures her freedom from an unwanted marriage. Amid impending clan conflict, her mother's endorsement of a firstborn's marital choice disrupts age-old customs. Here, Merida's archery evolves from a sport to a profound symbol of her independence and personal convictions.
Hawkeye, portrayed by Jeremy Renner, is a significant character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, making appearances in several films such as Thor, The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America, and Avengers: Endgame, in addition to his self-titled 2021 Disney+ miniseries.
What sets Hawkeye apart from other superheroes is the absence of any true superpowers. His exceptional ability relies solely on his extraordinary archery skills (and his specialized arrows.) This character's portrayal presents archery as a formidable tool of justice and a way for an ordinary individual to feel empowered, almost like a superhero.
Promoting the sport of archery is not just confined to the physical world; children's literature plays a massive role in sparking and nurturing a love for archery. Among the abundance of books available, we've chosen two classics that perfectly represent the spirit of archery and embody the adventurous and resilient character that archery instills in children.
This 1950 children’s book written by C.S. Lewis has withstood the test of time, becoming a perennial classic for generations of children. In the fantasy world of Narnia, archery is commonly used as a method of hunting, as well as a form of defense.
Venturing into Narnia, young Susan Pevensie transforms into a skilled archer, Queen Susan the Gentle, renowned for her infallible precision. Endowed with a bow and arrow by the benevolent King Aslan, her narrative encapsulates kindness, virtue, and exceptional skills, painting a beautiful picture of how archery transcends sport.
There aren’t many stories more classic than Robin Hood. This enduring tale from 1883 has continued to enthrall generations with its riveting narrative and iconic character.
Robin Hood, the hero of the people, employs his trusty bow and arrow to uphold justice by redistributing wealth from the rich to the poor. His story is a perfect demonstration of how archery can be a metaphor for social justice, reflecting the courage to stand up for one's beliefs and wielding the bow and arrow as a catalyst for change.
To enhance your child's interest in archery, why not arm them with one of our combination bow and arrow sets? Tailored for little hands, our unique, foam-tipped arrows add a touch of safety and realism, making their archery explorations all the more enjoyable and tangible.
Whether it's a riveting film or an enthralling book that captures your child's attention, we're here to provide all the necessary tools to kickstart their journey in archery, contact us today!

]]>Are you looking for easy-to-implement archery tips to improve accuracy? If you want to know and teach your kids how to be more accurate with a bow, you need to practice and improve upon these four elements of shooting a bow and arrow.
Correctly grasping your bow is one of the fundamental archery shooting tips. The grip of your drawing hand is essential for creating draw consistency and stability, but it should never be so tight that it restricts your movement. In fact, it’s best if your bow hand has as little contact with your bow as possible. Experimenting with various gripping styles can help you discover the most efficient balance between firmness and flexibility according to your personal preference.
Your stance is essential when it comes to how to improve archery accuracy. Make sure you stand with your feet parallel and shoulder-width apart. Your hips will stay square as you anchor your upper body against your lower body. Locking in on the target, begin to draw the bow until full draw, taking care to keep your back straight and maintain a relaxed arm position. Aim through the peep (holes in the strings) for improved accuracy.
Following the first two archery tips will improve accuracy only when you follow this one too! Don’t hold your breath. As an archer, it’s easy to get so focused on ensuring proper grip and stance that you forget to breathe, resulting in an inaccurate shot. Make it a habit to take a deep breath before every shot to help your body relax and improve shooting accuracy.
Even if you follow the above archery shooting tips and improve your grip, stance, and breath, you still need confidence in yourself to improve accuracy. It's difficult to hit your mark if you’re half-heartedly drawing back on the bowstring, unsure of yourself and your aiming capabilities. Dedication in practice sessions is key here–focus on perfecting your form and technique so that when the pressure really mounts, you can be sure that every arrow will fly exactly where you want it to. Taking the time to practice with confidence will undoubtedly lead to sharper aiming skills and more fun!
Teaching your kids how to be more accurate with a bow starts with getting them a high-quality kid’s bow and arrow set. Whether you’re a pro archer or looking to introduce your kids to the sport, we have a bow and arrow for kids, perfect for practicing in your backyard. So, pick up some toy arrows from Two Bros Bows and practice these archery tips to improve shot accuracy today!

A bow is one of the most effective long-range weapons in Zelda games, and makes the perfect accessory when dressing as Link for Halloween. Outfitting yourself or your kiddo as Link is incredibly simple. All you need is an oversized green t-shirt (we recommend cutting the hems of the sleeves at an angle to give it a tunic-style look), gray leggings or pants, and a brown belt and some boots to tie it all together.
Throw one of our quiver bags full of soft-tipped arrows on your back and you’re all set to head out on a trick-or-treating adventure.
A jungle safari is a dream vacation for many. If a trip to the Serengeti isn’t on your calendar yet, that’s okay - we can bring the safari to you! Our safari bow and arrow with cheetah print is the perfect starting point for your safari guide costume. From there, find a pair of binoculars to hang around your neck, a walkie-talkie to clip to your shoulder, and a set of khakis a la The Crocodile Hunter. A safari hat will really tie the whole look together.
Who says that your Halloween costume has to be based off of a real person or character? Sometimes the best costume is the one that makes the least amount of sense. Head to your closet or the nearest thrift shop and piece together a colorful collection of clothing that represents all of your favorite superheroes. Maybe you’ll have a cape, a mask, or a spandex costume. Either way, make sure your quiver bag is loaded up with arrows and ready to fight crime on Halloween! Our spooky Halloween combo set is perfect for this costume, as it has a little bit of everything with skulls, glow-in-the-dark spider webs, and Halloween-colored arrows.
Start building your costume now with the help of Two Bros Bows, your source for kid-friendly bow and arrows. Available in dozens of designs and colors, your kiddo can find the perfect archery set regardless of who (or what!) they’re dressing up as for Halloween this year.
]]>It can be tough to come up with fun games for a kid's birthday party that will please all the guests, but we've got you covered! Here are five birthday party games for kids that will have them laughing and playing all party long.
This classic game is a sure-fire hit with kids of all ages. All you need is a donkey poster and a blindfold. Have the birthday child go first, then let each guest take a turn. The guest who gets the closest to pinning the donkey's tail where it’s supposed to go is the winner. If your child has a favorite animal, you can use that too! Pin the tail on the pig, horse, dog, or another animal makes an excellent birthday party game for kids!
Another classic birthday party game is musical chairs using your child’s favorite music. The object of the game is simple: to always find a chair. The catch is that there’s always one fewer chair than players, so someone is always left without a seat. When the music starts, everyone walks around the chairs until it suddenly stops. At that point, everyone rushes to sit down in the nearest chair. The person without a chair is eliminated from the game and must remove one of the chairs from the circle. The music starts again, and the process repeats. The winner is the last person sitting!
A treasure hunt is one of the best kid's birthday party games that can last a while, depending on how hard you make it. You can hide multiple items in different rooms or hide clues to find the treasure at the end. If you’re not sure what to hide, consider making the “treasure” the birthday party favor bags. It’s a fun way for the kids to work together to find something everyone can enjoy at the end.
This is one of the best kid’s birthday party games because you can adjust it for various ages. Here’s how to set it up and play:

]]>Learning how to shoot a bow and arrow takes patience and practice. But with an exciting archery course in your backyard, your kids will enjoy the challenge. Here are three things you need to create a fun space for archery.
Safety should be a top priority when creating an archery course for kids. Make sure to choose a safe location for your course, away from busy roads or other hazards. Where you place your targets throughout your yard is also important. Even though a kids’ archery set doesn’t use real arrows, it’s still best to practice safe shooting. So, make sure the targets are located strategically away from houses and high foot traffic areas like sidewalks. It’s also essential to ensure your kids won’t hit anything (or anyone) if they miss the target to the right or left or shoot beyond it.
An archery course with at least one target is a great starting point. However, consider setting up multiple targets at varying distances to make things more challenging. At Two Bros Bows, we have three different targets: the trifold target, large target, and flat target. Multiple targets also provide an opportunity for more kids to practice their archery skills together. You can purchase extra kids' bow and arrow targets and foam-tipped arrows for everyone to enjoy.
When most people think of archery, they envision a static target in an open field. However, archery can also be a dynamic and challenging sport, particularly when played on an obstacle course. When creating an obstacle archery course, the first step is to map out the playing area. The course should include a variety of obstacles that encourage the players to move around and change their shot angles.
A few simple obstacles might include low walls, barrels, and hanging targets. Once the playing area is mapped out, the next step is to set up the targets. Begin by placing the targets at different distances from the start line. Then, add additional challenges by angling the targets or placing them behind objects. Finally, make sure to provide a safe space for players to retrieve their arrows. With a bit of planning, it's easy to create an obstacle archery course that everyone will enjoy.
Spending time in the water is a great way to stay cool and have fun on hot summer days. If you don’t live close to a body of water, you can always bring water fun to your house. Set up a slip n’ slide or get some sprinklers to run through. Be sure to apply sunscreen and take breaks often to avoid getting too much sun.
Pack some sandwiches, fruits, and drinks for a fun outdoor meal. You can head to a nearby park or enjoy a backyard picnic close to home. Don’t forget a blanket or towel to sit on and bug spray to keep critters away from you and your meal.
If you’re looking for fun summer activities for kids that get you out of the house for the day, go to a nearby amusement park. Kids will love riding the rides and playing games. Be sure to buy tickets in advance, so you don’t have to wait in line. You can also keep an eye out for summer fairs coming to your town!
Encourage your kid to try their hand at archery with a kid's bow and arrows set. Practicing archery is a great way to keep your little one entertained for hours, plus it exercises the mind and body. While practicing archery, your child will learn the importance of patience, perseverance, and self-confidence. They’ll also improve their hand-eye coordination and upper-body strength as they aim for the arrow target.
When looking for fun summer activities for kids, look no further than camping! Camping is a great way to get outdoors, away from screens and technology, and connect with nature. Plus, it’s a great opportunity for family bonding. Pitch a tent in the backyard, or venture out to a nearby campground. Spend your days hiking, fishing, swimming, and exploring. And don’t forget the s’mores! Camping is a great way to make lasting memories with your kids. So go ahead and give it a try–you might just find that you love it as much as they do.
Take your bow and arrow set with you, set up your target on a tree, and enjoy hours of entertainment - no cell service required.
Pop some popcorn and settle in for a family-friendly movie marathon. You can even make it a themed night by dressing up as the characters in the film. Take this summer activity to the next level by setting up an outdoor movie screening using a sheet and projector showing the movie on the side of your house.
One of the best fun summer activities for kids is learning how to juggle! Purchase our Tie-Dye Devil Sticks or Flame Devil Sticks and learn cool devil stick tricks. After your child spends some time practicing their moves, you can host a neighborhood talent show. Have all the kids in the area come together to show off their skills while your little one showcases their juggling abilities.
So, what are you waiting for? As the weather gets warmer and the days get longer, it's time to start planning some fun summer activities for kids. There are so many great things to do in the summer, from exploring nature to playing sports to learning new skills. And there's no need to spend a lot of money! Often, the simplest activities are the most enjoyable. So get creative and have some fun this summer and beyond!
]]>At summer camp, kids get to enjoy all sorts of fun activities they might not have the opportunity to do at home. From canoeing and hiking to arts and crafts, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. If your child isn't heading off to camp this summer (or if they are and are begging for more things to do) here are five summer camp activities for kids that you can do to make the most of your summer.
Take advantage of the great outdoors and explore your neighborhood or a local park. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife and see if you can identify any plants or trees. Don't forget to bring along a field guide to help with identification.
Get creative and do some art projects inspired by nature. Use sticks and stones to create sculptures or leaves and flowers to make collages. Another fun craft is to make homemade friendship bracelets. All you need is some colorful string and a few simple knots, and your child can make beautiful bracelets for all their friends.
Lie down on the grass and look up at the stars on a clear night. See if you can spot any constellations or shooting stars. Take this summer camp activity to the next level by camping in your backyard. Pitch a tent and grab a sleeping bag like they do at summer camp!
Some of the best summer camp activities teach kids new skills. You can do that at home by practicing archery! All you need is a kid’s bow and arrows set to learn and master the skill of archery. Once everyone has had a chance to practice, you can host an archery competition to see who can hit the target the most.
Fill up some water balloons and let the battle begin! This is one of the summer camp activities kids look forward to the most. Plus, it is sure to cool everyone off on a hot summer day. You can also do a water balloon toss. Have two people toss a water balloon back and forth while slowly getting further and further away from each other. Whoever can throw it the farthest without the balloon breaking wins!
Want to take it even further? Play water balloon skeet shooting. See who can use their foam-tipped bow and arrow to knock a water balloon out of the sky!
A backyard talent show is a great way to show off your hidden talents and have some fun at the same time. To get started, invite your kid’s friends and family to your house for the show. Then, set up a stage in your backyard (or anywhere else you have space). Finally, ask everyone to sign up to perform their talent. This can be anything from singing and dancing to stand-up comedy to juggling! Purchase a pair of devil sticks for kids and teach your child how to juggle for the talent show.
At Two Bros Bows, we love discovering new summer camp activities for kids to enjoy at home! To us, the best activities are fun and challenging, enjoyable and educational–that’s why we consider archery and juggling two of the best summer camp activities you can do in your backyard. Shop all of our bow and arrows and devil sticks to find the styles and designs that fit your child’s personality.
]]>Before you go, let’s celebrate National Archery Day together with a brief lesson in archery history, how archery has changed over time, and how you can get in on the fun in your own community!
Did you know that archery is one of the oldest arts in the world? It’s true! The earliest records of bow and arrows date back to 20,000 BC, where primitive pictures on a cave wall in Spain depicted bows and arrows. The first evidence of civilizations using bows and arrows dates back to Egypt in the late Paleolithic period (10,000 BC), where Egyptian and Nubian cultures would use bows and arrows for hunting and warfare.
The next earliest account of archery takes us to China’s Shang and Zhou dynasties. In Asian culture, these primitive hunting tools were also used for sport, specifically in a martial arts ritual known as Kyudo–the way of the bow. In fact, modern Kyudo is a martial arts ritual still practiced today!
As time passed, bows and arrows would make their way to the Middle East, where their use in hunting and warfare would continue to develop for centuries.
As human understanding of technology developed, especially by the 16th century, these ancient tools primarily used for hunting and war would begin to be replaced by firearms–but this wouldn’t be the end of bow and arrows! In 1537, these tools, once necessary for survival, would become one of today’s most popular sports by order of England’s King Henry VIII after he established the world’s first archery society. By 1600, archery would become a competitive sport, and the rest is history!
Since its earliest beginnings, the sport of archery has changed (and improved) dramatically. From the evolution of bow technology and archer technique to the global network of archery organizations, archery is a sport thousands of years in the making. Today, archery is enjoyed by children as young as five with kids bow and arrow sets to professionally trained archers who have competed on the Olympics world stage since 1896. As time went on, archery would transform from a sport for the elite to a sport where anyone, anywhere, could take part in the fun, whether it be at home in their own backyard or as part of a larger archery community or organization.
Whether you are new to the world of archery or have been an archer for quite some time, you can spread the joy of archery by teaching someone new about the sport with a bit of help from Two Bros Bows! Around here, we believe archery is the best way to unlock imagination and creativity while enjoying the great outdoors, and our toy bows and arrows for kids are a safe and super fun way to invite the next generation to become part of the archery history.
No matter how you choose to celebrate National Archery Day, we encourage you to spread the word about the fascinating archery history and the benefits of archery. Who knows, maybe you will inspire the next best archer to take a shot at one of the oldest sports in the world!
]]>Teaching your kids devil stick tricks (or playing with them yourself!) is a fun and rewarding experience. Not only will they learn a new skill, but they’ll have fun while doing it. And the cool thing is, there are some really easy tricks they can start with.
Hold your right-hand stick and left-hand stick in each hand with your elbows tucked to your sides, your arms bent at a 90-degree angle, and your sticks pointing straight out in front of you. Place the devil stick diagonally between the two so it is below your right-hand stick and on top of your left-hand stick (or vice versa). Sway the devil stick back and forth between your right-hand stick and left-hand stick by moving your hands up and down in a constant, rhythmic motion.
Start by doing the standard idle. When ready, position your right and left-hand sticks at the top part of the devil stick. Alternate the devil stick between your right-hand stick and left-hand stick while forcing it downward into a half spin on either side.
Start by doing the standard idle. When ready, transition the devil stick to either your right-hand stick or left-hand stick, and spin it consistently on the chosen stick (it should look like an airplane propeller). To keep the devil stick spinning on either side, aim to hold your hand stick at the center of the devil stick. Your moving arm should make a scooping motion as you spin it either clockwise or counterclockwise.
Hold your right-hand stick and left-hand stick in each hand with your elbows tucked to your sides, your arms bent at a 90-degree angle, and your sticks pointing straight out in front of you. Place the devil stick so that it rests on the inside of both hand sticks. Sway that devil stick back and forth between your right-hand stick and left-hand stick by moving your hands up and down in a constant, rhythmic motion.
Start by doing the top only idle. When ready, transition the devil stick to either your right-hand stick or left-hand stick while pushing the devil stick outward, so that it lays flat on the support stick and spins. After the devil stick spins, sway it back to the other hand stick before doing the spin motion again.
Control and consistency are key when it comes to performing devil stick tricks. The goal is not to do the tricks as fast as possible but as consistently as possible. The more difficult the trick, the more important it is to find a rhythm and move the stick in a constant motion. By mastering the standard idle first, it will be much easier to learn more complicated moves. Ready to get your hands on some devil sticks and try these fun tricks? Shop our selection of devil sticks for kids today!
]]>At Two Bros Bows, we know a thing or two about having a good time in the great outdoors, and we want to help your kiddos have a super fun season, starting with our best list of spring games and activities for kids.
Whether you need a few quick Spring games for kids of any age to enjoy at home or a handful of spring activities for a group of rambunctious youngins, this list of tried-and-true activities will get them out the door and entertained for hours on end.
If your kids have been cooped up all winter, a bike ride is a perfect way to “break the ice” and get back outdoors. Whether they prefer the smooth terrains of your local bike path or like to buzz around the neighborhood on their two-wheeler, getting your kids outside and on their bikes is a physically and mentally rewarding spring activity perfect for any sunny afternoon.
Looking for a fun spring activity that’s fun, fruitful, and also highly educational? Start a garden! Gardening is an excellent opportunity to teach your kids about the magic of nature, like where healthy foods come from and, more importantly, the effort that goes into growing that food. Plus, it lets them get a little dirty, and what kid doesn’t love that?
Set aside an afternoon to discuss how seeds, sunshine, and water work together to grow food. Show them how to plant seeds and care for a garden that will produce a beautiful bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables. You might be surprised by how much fun they have learning about agriculture!
We recommend choosing some easy-to-grow options they enjoy, like peppers, cucumbers, strawberries, blackberries, or raspberries. You’ll love that this simple spring activity that got them outside will continue to provide food, entertainment, and education throughout the summer and beyond.
Spring is the season of new life, and taking a hike is one of the best ways to witness that new life in bloom. Hiking during the springtime might be a bit muddy or wet, but it’s certainly not boring. Your kids will love walking through the changing terrain, hearing the birds chirping overhead, and witnessing new life blossom from the ground and trees.
Make your hike as short and sweet or as long and lax as you have time for. After all, there’s no wrong way to get outside and explore nature! If your kids really take a liking to this popular spring activity, consider starting a hiking routine or plan out future trips to longer trails or taller mountains. You’ll never know what kind of inspiration they’ll get from the experience!
Looking to create a regular schedule of fun spring activities for your child? Sign them up for a spring sport! With baseball, lacrosse, tennis, and club sports, there are endless opportunities to make new friends and stay active while soaking up the nice weather and sharpening their skills—not to mention, make new friends!
If prior commitments make it hard to commit to a dedicated team, there’s still plenty of games to be played. ]]>If you feel like your kids spend too much time indoors, on their phones, or watching TV, it’s time to find some outside activities for kids. These five ideas are affordable, fun, and easy to enjoy for hours.
Some of the best fun activities for kids outside use nature as entertainment. For example, you can design a nature scavenger hunt that will keep your kids enjoying and exploring the outdoors for hours. Start by coming up with a list of things you can find outside, including sticks of all sizes, certain types of bugs or animals, flowers and plants, and anything else you can think of. When your child “finds” one of the items on their list, have them draw a picture of what they see. This makes the game take more time and gets their creative juices flowing. It will quickly turn into one of their favorite backyard activities for kids.
We consider juggling one of the best outside activities for kids because although it can be enjoyed indoors, you may find yourself with a broken lamp or two. That is, at least until they get the hang of it. Learning to juggle is not only fun, but it increases hand-eye coordination and strengthens the left-right brain connection. Check out our devil sticks that come in unique designs and colors for your kids to enjoy.
Not all fun activities for kids outside need to be active to be entertaining. On a partly cloudy day, laying on the grass and getting creative with the clouds is enough. Your kids will experience the physical and mental benefits of being outdoors while using their imagination to find unique shapes and pictures in the clouds.
Archery is one of the best and most fun backyard activities for kids. It helps improve fine motor skills and evokes a sense of adventure and focus. All you need to create a safe archery zone in your backyard is a kids bow and arrow target, a toy bow and arrow, and a few extra foam-tipped arrows. At Two Bros Bows, you can find a kid's bow and arrow set with everything you need in one convenient package, and in tons of unique designs, from tie-dye to animal print to flowers, camo print, and more.
If you’re looking for fun outdoor activities for kids of any age, design an obstacle course. You can make it as complicated or easy as needed for their age and skill level. Incorporate the backyard activities for kids into your course by having them shoot a bow or juggle as one of the obstacles.
With so many fun outdoor activities for kids, you can keep your children off their phones and enjoying time outside for hours. Whether you’re a parent, babysitter, or caregiver, try these five outside activities for kids to see which ones your kiddos like the most.
]]>Please note: While archery target point values are fairly universal, archery scoring rules and systems are subject to change from one competition style or country to the next. The following archery scoring rules are a basic example of what you can expect in a competition and can vary depending on your location, type, and level of competition. The following archery scoring rules do not account for the Olympic archery scoring rules and regulations, though they are similar.
Archery target point values are determined by each ring on the target. On a standard archery target, you will find 11 rings. The two innermost rings, known as the “inner ring” and “outer ring,” equal ten points each. The remaining nine rings are valued in sequential order from nine to one, working from the inside out. Archery target point rules dictate that a missed target equals zero points.
Most archery competitions are played in rounds known as “Ends,” consisting of shooting in groups of three, four, or six arrows (depending on the competition rules). The set number of Ends and arrows used may vary from one competition to the next.
After one archer shoots their End, their points are calculated, and they can approach the target and remove their arrows. The next archer will begin their End. The archer with the highest number of points when all Ends are complete is the winner.
In the event of a tie, the archer with the highest number of 10s is the winner. If archers are still tied, the archer with the greater number of inner 10s is the winner. A final tie-breaker can be completed through a shoot-off to see which archer can earn the most points in one or more rounds, depending on the archery rules.
In elimination-style competitions, an archer will receive two points for each End won. If the End is tied, each archer earns one point. The archer to win the majority of Ends (like two out of three) moves onto the next round. If competing archers are tied, a shoot-off will take place where the archer to land an arrow closer to the middle of the target is the winner. This will repeat until a winner is determined.
For friendly competition at home using a kid bow and arrow set, follow the archery target point system discussed above for three Ends, with each archer shooting three arrows per End. After all three Ends, add up the total points of each archer and determine the winner. In the event of a tie, follow one of the tie-breaking methods above. Most importantly, remember to have fun with it!

]]>Don’t sweat it! With the help of Two Bros Bows, we’ll walk you through the most important archery tips for beginners to help get your young archer up to speed on the what’s, how’s and why’s of archery for beginners, including:
Let’s get started!
Rather than the age you can begin to teach archery to kids, learning archery will more so depend on the type of kids bow and arrow set (real or toy) used, along with the child’s strength, physical ability, and maturity level.
For instance, a Two Bros Bows toy bow and arrow target set is the perfect youth beginner archery set for children six and up, while a real youth beginner archery set is best suited for children eight and up, only if they can safely hold, aim, and shoot at their target.
A toy bow and arrow with a foam-tipped arrow is naturally lighter and easier to hold and safer to shoot than a real youth beginner archery set since they are made from lightweight wood and fabric materials and do not come with a sharp, pointed arrow. If your child is eight or older, but you think they would benefit from starting with a toy bow and arrow (no shame in that game!), go with your gut. This simple change in archery equipment will make teaching and learning archery much easier, and encourage them to persevere to the next level of archery.
Beginner archery distance is typically determined by skill level and bow type. For your beginner archer, we recommend starting close to practice consistency and coordination, with a three to five-yard distance to start. Once your child demonstrates they can successfully hit the target at this distance for most of their shots, move the target another yard or two further. There is no right or wrong way to learn, but slow distance increments can help motivate them to keep practicing.
Before learning how to hold a bow and arrow, it’s important to establish your child’s dominant eye. Our dominant eye does not always coincide with our dominant hand, so this is an important step for archery safety and proficiency.
To establish their dominant eye, ask them to extend both of their arms out in front of them, bringing together their forefinger and thumbs and forming a small triangle. Then, center the triangle over a distant object and ask them to close their left eye first. Ask them: “Did the object move or stay center?” If it stays center, their right eye (the open eye) is the dominant eye. If it moved, their left eye is the dominant eye. They will then hold their bow in the hand opposite of their dominant eye.
This video by Two Bros Bows brothers Duncan and Hayden perfectly demonstrates how to hold a toy bow and arrow. Another way to teach your child how to hold a bow and arrow that may also be beneficial is to simply have your child place their first three fingers below the arrow shaft. The bowstring should be positioned in the first groove of their fingers, and their index finger should be pushed up against the arrow nock or nock indicators.
How you stand while shooting your arrow matters. While there are several stance options more experienced archers prefer to use, a beginner archer may want to begin with a square stance, a simpler and easier stance designed to keep the archer more accurately in line with their target. In this position, your child will stand with feet square with their hips and shoulders so that the side of their body faces the target. This stance will help them focus on holding their bow and arrow without worrying too much about balance. It will also help them “feel” whether they are leaning back away from the target, or forward and toward the target, making it easier to practice maintaining a straight, steady, even posture.
Another important archery technique for beginners is to decide on a grip at the beginning of the shot and stick with it. Changing grip position even slightly can jeopardize the accuracy of the shot, so taking the time to focus on maintaining a steady hand will pay off over time.
Last but certainly not least in our list of important archery techniques for beginners is archery safety. Teaching your kids bow and arrow safety is a crucial step in any parent’s archery lesson guidebook and can help prevent injury to your child or others, especially when they move into using real bow and arrow sets. Here are six golden rules for archery safety your child needs to know:
Regardless of experience or strength, Two Bros Bows youth beginner archery sets are a great learning tool to introduce the benefits of archery for beginners in a safe, fun, and imaginative way. Your kids will love to practice and show off their bow and arrow skills, all while unknowingly improving their self-confidence, hand-eye coordination, upper body strength, and self-esteem.
