As the Two Bros Bows team works tirelessly to fulfill kids archery set orders in time for the holiday, President & CEO Elisha Duncan reflects on her favorite Christmas traditions, and the feelings many parents share around the holidays.
Here’s Elisha Duncan, in her own words:
As we navigate the thick of the Holiday season, I can’t help but reflect on the past year. In these unprecedented times, and especially around the holidays, it’s important to reflect on the little blessings presented to us every day.
For me, Christmastime brings back special memories of Duncan & Hayden when they were small. One of my favorite Christmas memories was when they made a tree topper for the Christmas tree. They each made their own star out of a recycled cereal box turned inside out and decorated it with glue and glitter; I loved it! Every year since, we’ve taken turns placing the star on the tree. It cost us nothing to make, but brings us so much joy year after year.
Being a single Mom and running a full-time business in the toy industry makes the holidays a bit challenging. With the volume of kids archery set sales and general wear and tear on the body, the thought of cutting down a Christmas tree, loading and unloading it from the car and setting it up feels like running a marathon! Even though I am filled with gratitude this time of year, the guilt of not spending enough time with my children (a feeling many parents know all too well) starts to set in.
In the past I’ve always made sure that we travel and go somewhere where the boys have never been. So when I told them we will go on a trip after Christmas this year, they said “can't we just stay here and veg?” As you can imagine, this was music to my ears! They further explained how much happier they would be to just hang out, eat, stay up late and watch movies and play games (and if we’re being honest, I could benefit from a few days of good, solid rest!) Plus, what better way to celebrate the season than to spend time cuddled up on the couch watching your favorite movies with the ones you love in the comfort of your own home?
In years past I remember talking to my sons about how I felt like the worst parent during the fourth quarter (the thick of the Holiday season), but they’ve always been 100% supportive of me and our growing toy bows and toy arrows business.
Despite all that 2020 has thrown our way, one thing remains clear: it doesn't matter what we’re doing, our kids just want to be with us. I am grateful for the chance to stay home this year and stare at my kids with more calmness and gratitude for how hard we all three have worked to build this business. I extend my deepest gratitude to the many wonderful customers and staff members who helped make Two Bros Bows the success it is today.
This holiday season, allow yourself to be in the moment. Treasure the little moments spent together, and remember to live in the now, because life happens while you’re busy making other plans.
Wishing you all the Merriest of Holidays,
Elisha Duncan
